The Cedar Keys are known world-wide for their clams - sweet, tender, and non-gritty. Sweet Cedar Key Florida clams are farmed in the clean waters of the Gulf surrounding the islands. Cedar Key restaurants offer clams cooked in most any way you can imagine. Hmmm, maybe we need a mission to sample a different restaurant's take on clams each day!

Local restaurants offer the freshest seafood that local fishermen and clammers have to offer. Whatever your pleasure, from white tablecloth dining to carryout - there will be a restaurant to suit your tastes. Except that none of the local restaurants will require that you "dress for dinner". Wear your sun dress, your shorts, or your dockers. Just remember, shoes and a shirt will be required. ;) How much better does life get? Marvelous food without the fuss?

- Big Deck Raw Bar has picnic style outdoor sitting makes your dog welcomed at this restaurant while you can enjoy the nice selection of local clams and oysters! The grouper sandwich is excellent! Same owners as Cedar Key Market.

- The Island Room at Cedar Cove offers elegant dining in a laid back atmosphere. The menu is continental with an island flair. A few recommendations: the Crab Bisque, Oysters Rockefeller, Linguini Alle Vongole (littleneck clams in wine and other marvelous ingredients), Grouper Savannah, and the Creme Brulee for dessert... Serving dinner every night and lunch/brunch on Saturdays and Sundays (don't miss the Crab Benedict!) A Florida Magazine winner!

- Need your Cedar Key coffee fix and some ice cream? Have we got the place for you: Kona Joe's Island Cafe! Open at 6 am Wednesday through Sunday on State Route 24 and 6th St., Kona Joe's offers a great menu with sandwiches, cinnamon buns, coffee, salads, desserts, and ICE CREAM! The new location has a great view of the backwaters of Cedar Key. The outdoor seating offers a fabulous view and you'll love the whimsical decor. Be sure to try the breakfast sandwiches - made with a smile and to order, these are some of the tastiest sandwiches we've ever eaten!

- Cedar Key Steamers offers waterfront dining above Dock Street in Cedar Key. They offer an extensive menu of fresh seafood including a few favorites - Fish and Chip (with malt vinegar), a low country-boil and the best clam chowder on island made with fresh Cedar Key clams! And for craft beer lovers: Steamers offers the island's only craft brew flights (samplers) with fresh Swamp Head and Florida Brewing on draft. Check out their online menu! - The Island Hotel offers elegant dining in a laid back atmosphere - serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Try the stuffed grouper! They offer a fabulous crab bisque - you really want to try it!

- The Island Pizzeria on Rt. 24 has excellent pizza, subs, sandwiches, and salads. They are open 5 days a week AND they deliver!

- Annie's Cafe on Rt. 24 offers a varied menu, but we like their breakfasts best! Eat at a picnic table in the screened porch and watch a small bayou that's always lively with bird life. Nothing exotic on the menu - but they do offer mullet for breakfast! The eggs are done just how you like them, the food is always fresh, and the prices are very reasonable. Friendly dogs allowed in the outdoor patio area.

- The Pickled Pelican Restaurant is located on Dock Street in Cedar Key Florida. Located above Black Dog Bar and Tables, their menu is pretty extensive with plenty of landlubber selections as well as the usual seafood. Long beer list, mostly domestic big breweries.

- Tony's Seafood in Cedar Key
- Their claim to fame is as Winner of the Great Chowder Cook-off. Tony's Seafood offers a great menu for lunch and dinner. They will even deliver it to you in their cute little golfcart if you have cash (no credit cards for delivery...)! Try the award-winning clam chowder - New England chowder style, but spiced up a bit! Great lunch specials every day! (Note - if you're a big group - they add tips to the bill.)
